Stay here.....New Orleans, LA

We made it!  Friday is finally here and I'm ready for the weekend.  This weeks' rental is located in the fabulous city of New Orleans, LA.  The place is called "Race and Religious", named after the streets the property sits on.  The grounds are actually several  buildings dating back to the 1830's and include a two-story creole cottage and a three story Greek-Revival row house.  There is also a free-standing lounge that used to be the "Slave Quarters" and a pool in the courtyard.  Renting this space takes you on a historic and architectural journey through New Orleans and leaves you with an appreciation of all of the influences that make New Orleans unique. Renting this space includes both buildings so gather your friends and family and enjoy everything this space and the city of New Orleans has to offer. Race and Religious is also available to rent for events.  Rates start at $900 a night for both buildings.  For more information on this fabulous rental, go here.

New Logo Design...

Well, here it is!  The new logo and website for Guest House Interiors and the inspiration boards that inspired it. Inspiration boards are good because they help you define and edit what is important to you.  Okay, so I made three inspiration boards ( so much for the editing part!)  It's the same way with working with an Interior Designer.  Sending pictures of rooms you like or making an inspiration board help to create a starting point.  From there, you build until you have a finished look.  When you go back, you'll see where your inspiration is incorporated into the overall look and feel of your space.  It may not be a literal translation, but that's OK. What's important is that you are happy with your space and that it reflects what you want.  Here are my inspiration boards for the Guest House logo.  Can you see where the elements in my inspiration boards are translated in the finished logo?

Stay here.....Round Top, TX

Welcome to 2012! This week's rental is unique in that there are several options to choose from.  The name of this place is called "The Prairie" and it's a creation by the famous Shabby Chic designer Rachel Ashwell.  This rental is located in the charming town of Round Top, TX which is home to several large antique shows held throughout the year.  Round Top is located in the Hill Country and offers a beautiful landscape any time of year but it is particularly special in the spring when the hills are covered in Bluebonnets and other native wildflowers.  The Prairie offers small one bedroom cottages up to a two story lodge that can accommodate up to eight guests.  The Ranger Lodge is a communal space on the property that serves breakfast and provides a place for guests to gather and enjoy the views.  In addition to the rustic warmth of the interiors, luxe amenities include Molton Brown products, ipod docks and flat screen TVs.  For more information and reservations, go here.

Vintage Inspiration....

There have been some amazing vintage items online recently and thought I would share some of them with you.  If you live in a smaller city or a remote area, you don't have access to resale shops or thrift stores like we do in the big city but that doesn't mean you can't find some great vintage items with the click of your mouse. Even if you live in a city that has great shops, vintage items are unique and you just might find something online that might surprise you. I love the idea of being able to shop for vintage items online and these places have a consistently good selection of unique finds in all price ranges.  Looking to add some vintage pieces to your rental?  Check out some of the great online retailers and pick up something special.  Happy Shopping!

Love this screen door with the original green paint.  Don't need a screen door?  How about mounting this to a wall (I'm thinking kitchen or entry) and replace the screen part with a chalkboard?  Important phone numbers and a sweet welcome message to your guests turns this great vintage door into a funky and functional piece.  This door is available at Three Potato Four.

Okay, so these are vintage reproductions but how great would these look in an all white kitchen?  Get these at Three Potato Four.
Short on closet space? This not only looks cool, but it also has room for shoes and a suitcase. Did I also mention it looks cool?  Check it out at Cleveland Art.

L O V E  this vintage Italian Dining Table.  The white really brings attention to the detail on the bottom (carved solid wood legs) and the top has been hand waxed and clear coat protected to last for years to come.  I would arrange an eclectic mix of simple chairs with this table but the options are endless.  This table is available from etsy while it lasts.

A great anywhere chair.  Easy to move to where you need extra seating and has a classic modern shape.  Throw a sheepskin rug over it to make it extra plush.  Available through etsy.

Beautiful and very unique vintage Napcoware planter.  This is a piece that's inexpensive, has beautiful colors and great texture ($16 on etsy ).  Sometimes it's easier to start with the small things and build from there.
One more thing.  I'm in the process of getting a new logo so in the near future things might look a  little different but it's still me (just a little jazzed up).
